About Maya Caldwell
Maya Caldwell
Maya Caldwell is a certified sleep science coach and the lead researcher at RestPact. After overcoming years of chronic insomnia, she dedicated herself to making evidence-based sleep strategies accessible, helping others build bedtime routines that lead to deep, restorative rest.
Welcome, I’m glad you’re here. I’m Maya Caldwell, a sleep science coach and the research lead for RestPact. If you’re reading this after another night of staring at the ceiling, mentally bargaining with your alarm clock, or wondering why you can function for months on too little sleep until you suddenly cannot, I see you. I’ve been there.
RestPact exists because I don’t believe better sleep should feel like a personality test, a purchasing decision, or a moral achievement. It should feel like support. Practical, research-informed support that meets you where you are and helps you build a steadier relationship with rest.

How I got here
For about a decade, I was an overworked project manager who treated sleep like an optional line item. Four hours a night was normal. Coffee was a food group. I was good at pushing through and even better at ignoring what my body was trying to tell me.
Then the chronic exhaustion stopped being a background hum and became a full-body crash. The kind that makes you realize you cannot outwork biology. I started doing what I always do when something scares me. I researched it. Obsessively.
I read clinical sleep studies late into the night, which is a little ironic in hindsight. I tested mattresses, trackers, white noise machines, and every bedtime routine I could find. Some things helped. Some things were expensive noise. Most importantly, I learned that sleep is not just willpower. It is physiology, environment, timing, and the stress response, all working together.
That personal crisis became my life’s work. Today, I coach people using evidence-based principles and a lot of lived empathy. I live in the Pacific Northwest, where a good blackout curtain is basically a household essential, and I will always say yes to testing a cooling pillow.
What RestPact does
RestPact is a promise: to make sleep guidance accessible, human, and genuinely useful. No shame. No fear-mongering. No perfect routine or nothing mindset.
My goal is to help you build routines that support deeper, more restorative rest, while also respecting the reality of modern life. You might be juggling caregiving, shift work, anxiety, chronic pain, menopause, ADHD, a newborn, a demanding job, or all of the above. You deserve sleep support that is realistic and compassionate.

What to expect
Everything I publish at RestPact is built around a simple question: what helps most people sleep better, according to the best available evidence, and how can we make it doable?
- Research-first guidance. I translate sleep science into steps you can actually use tonight, not vague advice that sounds nice but fails at 2 a.m.
- Practical routines. You will see repeatable frameworks for mornings, evenings, and wake-ups in the middle of the night, because for many people, consistency is the missing ingredient.
- Environment and habit upgrades. Light exposure, temperature, noise, caffeine timing, and screen habits matter. We focus on changes with the biggest payoff.
- Product testing with skepticism. I love a good tool, but I love your budget more. When we talk about pillows, trackers, or supplements, we talk about what they can and cannot do.
- Gentle tone, zero shame. If you are exhausted, you do not need a lecture. You need a plan and reassurance that you are not broken.
My approach
I’m methodical by nature, and I’m also tenderhearted about this topic because I know how lonely insomnia can feel. My approach tends to center on:
- Circadian rhythms: your internal clock responds to light, timing, and routine. We use that to your advantage.
- Sleep pressure: the longer you are awake, the more your body builds up the drive to sleep. We protect that drive instead of accidentally draining it.
- Arousal regulation: many sleep struggles are not a lack of effort, but a body stuck in high alert. We practice cues that help your system settle.
- Small changes, stacked: the best routines are the ones you can keep. Tiny improvements compound.
If you want a north star, it is this: we aim for steady, not perfect. Better sleep is often built through kind consistency.
Start here tonight
If you want one simple place to begin, try this for the next three nights:
- Get bright light exposure within 30 to 60 minutes of waking, preferably outdoors. No sun-staring required.
- Try a caffeine cutoff 8 or more hours before bedtime. Many people do best with 8 to 10 hours.
- Dim overhead lights in the last hour before bed, and keep your bedroom cool if you can.
These are not magic tricks. They are steady inputs that help your body recognize day and night more clearly.
How I use research
When I say research-first, I mean I prioritize high-quality evidence and practical relevance. I lean on clinical guidelines, systematic reviews, and well-designed studies when available, and I try to be clear about what is established, what is promising, and what is mostly marketing.
As the research lead for RestPact, my work is focused on reviewing the evidence, testing what’s practical, and translating it into habits you can actually stick with. I’m not a clinician, and I do not diagnose or treat sleep disorders.
If RestPact includes affiliate links, they do not change what I recommend. I look for safety, realistic claims, ease of use, and whether the benefit is likely to matter for sleep. If something is a nice to have instead of a needle-mover, I will say so.
Scope and limits
RestPact is educational and supportive, not medical care. If you suspect sleep apnea (loud snoring, choking or gasping, daytime sleepiness), have severe or worsening insomnia, feel unsafe, or have questions about medications or supplements, please talk with a licensed clinician. You deserve tailored help, and sometimes the fastest path forward is medical support.
A note to you
If you are tired of feeling tired, you are in the right place. We will focus on the simplest steps that actually move the needle, and we will do it without judgment. You do not need to earn rest. You need support, a few evidence-based anchors, and time for your body to trust sleep again.
Thank you for being here. I’m honored you’re spending your limited energy with RestPact, and I hope what you find helps you feel calmer at night and sturdier in the morning.
